Bioenergetic Balance was born from my own need for effective, yet gentle, plant-infused skincare.

I’m Maggie Thoms, founder and formulator, based in Portland, OR. I began creating these formulas for myself—seeking botanical relief for sensitive, reactive, dry, and eczema-prone skin, and as someone with fragrance sensitivities. While I appreciated the intention behind many herbally infused products on the market, I wasn’t fully satisfied with their potency, effectiveness, or ingredient quality. I knew I could create something more nourishing, more thoughtfully sourced, and more alive—formulas that are truly food for the skin.

Skincare as nourishment

At the heart of Bioenergic Balance is the belief that skin is living tissue and responds best to living ingredients.

Every balm & oil blend is crafted using the highest-quality fats, oils, and plants I can find. This includes locally sourced, hand-rendered tallow from grass-fed and grass-finished cattle; flowers and herbs grown by small organic farms in Southern Oregon; and organic, unrefined, cold-pressed oils chosen for their freshness, vitality, and therapeutic value. These ingredients are deeply nutrient-dense—rich in vitamins, minerals, and naturally occurring actives that support the skin’s innate intelligence.

I like to think of my products—especially my cold-pressed oil blends—as juice for the skin: vibrant, nourishing, and readily absorbed, offering real sustenance rather than superficial moisture.

Rather than sitting on top, our formulas sink in deeply to support the skin barrier, elasticity, tone, collagen production, and long-term resilience. The same philosophy guides our hair oils, which nourish both scalp and strands using mineral-rich and Ayurvedic plant oils that support healthy growth and shine from the root.

Whole plants over isolated fragrance

Bioenergetic Balance is mostly essential oil–free by design. Many people—especially those with sensitive or eczema-prone skin—react to essential oils or synthetic fragrance. Instead, our scents come from whole plants themselves: slow botanical infusions of flowers, roots, and leaves, as well as cold-pressed oils—straight from plant to bottle.

The result is layered, earthy, and alive. Each scent is meant to transport you to another place, another time, another land—evoking lush landscapes, floral fields at peak bloom, springtime rain, and ancient rituals. These aromas are grounding, soul-nourishing, and subtly evocative, never overpowering.

Reverence for tallow + traditional fats

Our tallow-based balms are crafted for dry, sensitive, and compromised skin. Tallow is profoundly compatible with human skin, mirroring its natural lipid structure and delivering deep nourishment and repair.

Each balm begins with small-batch, hand-rendered tallow from local grass-fed and grass-finished sources. The tallow is then herbally infused using plants from small southern Oregon farms, and finished with botanically infused jojoba to create a silky, luscious texture that melts effortlessly into the skin.

Thoughtful sourcing, intentional making

Every ingredient is chosen with care—for its energetic quality, therapeutic value, and integrity.

All products are made in small batches and packaged in dark glass to protect delicate plant actives from light degradation. This ensures potency, freshness, and longevity without the need for harsh preservatives or fillers.

I am continually refining and evolving the line, sourcing the highest quality materials I can find, and creating formulas that serve a wide range of skin types, concerns, and sensitivities.
